Well howdy, y’all.

If you are one of the few people who have been reading my works via links to my Cohost page, I’m sure you’re a bit confused as to the change in scenery. Allow me to explain!

Last year, I started an experiment to fill a gap in my life I sorely needed to fill. Between October 30th and December 31st of 2023, I wrote and published over 21,000 words about video games and with that, felt pride in myself in a way I arguably never had felt prior. From the outset, I told you, the reader, that I was doing this for myself, and I stick to that. If I weren’t doing this for me and me only, it wouldn’t have the same weight, the same gravity to every word I write and every topic I discuss.

But as I wrote, I felt a passion growing that I couldn’t let get stamped out by hiding it away on a relatively unknown social media platform. I needed somewhere official, somewhere I could build as my own, somewhere I could grow. So after some careful deliberation, I decided to start a website. In its current form, it’s just another substack blog but to me, it marks a clear delineation from the trial run to the passion project.

Since the beginning, I kept telling myself I wasn’t doing this for anyone else because if I only did it for me, I wouldn’t get caught up in the social media influencer, YouTube star trap. However, just because I don’t want to be that doesn’t mean I can’t set myself up for success in other ways. This can still be a passion project aimed at putting the missing puzzle piece back in my soul, but there’s no reason I can’t use that passion project as a springboard for something in the future.

So that’s where Strafe Space comes in. Since the beginning, my goal has been to have meaningful, thoughtful conversations about video games and the video game industry. That doesn’t change with Strafe Space — if anything, it amplifies the original intent. With this new outlet, I want to take those sincere, important conversations and translate them into new avenues. I want to do reviews. I want to have friends write guest columns. Hell, I want to even have a podcast one day. But none of that could happen on Cohost.

For now though, not much is changing other than where you end up reading my stuff. Same me, same bloviating, same video game content. All I’m doing now is setting a foundation for this passion to build and build going forward. Will it last? Who knows. All I know is that I have had an absolute blast doing this for the past few months and I want to set my self up to do it in perpetuity.

As I said in my first Cohost post: if you somehow stumble across this, hello! Thanks for reading; sorry if it’s boring; I’ll get better one day, I promise. To anyone who has read any of my stuff so far, my deepest thanks possible. It has been wonderful hearing your kind words and knowing someone out there took time out of their day to spend with my writing. To everyone who is newly finding this: welcome! I hope you stick around for a while. I will if you do.
